Favela Street uses sports as a means for a better future for girls (Dutch)

Commissioned by Kenniscentrum Sport & Bewegen, the Mulier Institute spoke to girls about their participation in sports and exercise. As evidenced, in the transition phase from child to teenager, their sports wishes and experiences change. In addition to money worries at home, they often feel out of place at a sports club and school and homework take a lot of time. Growing up in two cultures also plays a role: girls experience discomfort, sometimes prefer to play sports only with women – including a female coach – and have the feeling that they do not belong.
