Favela Street Marks 10 Years with ‘Be A Drop, Start A Ripple’ Campaign
Favela Street is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a powerful message: small actions can create big changes. Over the past decade, Favela Street has impacted thousands of young people around the world through street football and community engagement. Now, at this special milestone, the organization reflects on a journey that began in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and has spread to communities worldwide, from Curaçao to Sudan.
A Decade of Impact
Since Favela Street was founded in 2014, the organization has positioned itself as a pioneer in empowering youth, particularly in underserved communities. What began on the streets of Rio has grown into a global movement. Favela Street believes in the power of football to break barriers, inspire young people, and strengthen communities. At a time when social exclusion and polarization are on the rise, Favela Street’s mission is more relevant than ever.

‘Be A Drop, Start A Ripple’
To mark its 10th anniversary, Favela Street is launching the ‘Be A Drop, Start A Ripple’ campaign. This campaign emphasizes how one individual’s actions can create a ripple effect that impacts others. The idea is simple but powerful: by acting together, we can set a movement in motion that creates positive change in the world.
Roxanne ‘Rocky’ Hehakaija, founder of Favela Street, believes it’s important for young people to understand their own power: “There are many young people who don’t often hear that they can be superheroes. Even the smallest acts of kindness and support can create ripples of change that transform entire communities.”
Favela Street’s Journey in Film
To celebrate this milestone, we present the ‘Be A Drop, Start A Ripple’ campaign video, featuring Favela Street Ambassador Lieke Martens van Leer and narrated by Kely Nascimento, the daughter of Brazilian football legend Pelé. The campaign underscores the power of individual actions to create lasting change, inviting everyone to reflect on the impact they wish to make and to join a movement toward a more inclusive and positive future. The video is not only a tribute to the power of sport, but also to the social impact Favela Street has made over the years.
Partnership with Blood In Blood Out
The collaboration with Blood In Blood Out is a perfect match for Favela Street’s philosophy. Known for its designs rooted in football culture, BIBO has worked with designer Floor Wesseling to create five distinctive shirts. Each shirt tells a story that reflects Favela Street’s mission. Whether it’s a tribute to the favelas of Rio, Rocky’s Moluccan roots, or a call for awareness about the situation in Sudan, these shirts are more than just fashion; they’re a symbol of the impact we can create together.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Favela Street
This 10th anniversary isn’t just a moment to look back—it’s also a moment to look forward. Favela Street continues to push forward, expanding its reach, empowering more young people, and developing its programs. The goal is clear: a diverse and inclusive world where everyone has the opportunity to shine, no matter their background. Through this campaign, Favela Street hopes to inspire not only young people but also a wider audience to join the movement. Because in the end, we can all be a drop that starts a ripple of change.
